! Introduction

GRE 2018 Exam

The GRE General Test is the world’s largest assessment program for graduate admissions. Full-form of GRE is Graduate Record Examination. Over a half million individuals take the GRE General Test in over 1,000 test centers in 160 countries every year, and scores are accepted at thousands of graduate programs around the world, for masters and doctoral degrees. More than 1,200 business schools around the world accept the GRE, including top-ranked MBA programs according to The Financial Times, U.S. News & World Report and Bloomberg Businessweek. And a handful (currently 19) law schools in the US accept GRE scores, including a few of the very best schools: Harvard, Columbia, Georgetown, and Northwestern.
GRE also has subject tests, apart from the basic GRE exam. These subject tests help to make your application stand out from the rest by highlighting your subject knowledge and skill level of a particular subject. Each subject test is intended for those students who have a bachelor's degree in the particular disciplines. The subject tests being offered currently are Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Literature, Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test that is required to be taken by students seeking admission to graduate schools. The exam has been developed to evaluate the verbal, analytical and mathematical skills of the candidates. GRE is a computer-based test and has a user-friendly design. Individuals applying to graduate schools in order to pursue a Masters of Science (MS) or MBA are required to take the exam.
If you are applying for MS courses in the US in particular, remember that colleges don’t have minimum ‘cutoff’ marks required for admission. However, you still need to have an idea about average GRE scores across Top US universities.

! Eligibility Criteria
GRE or Graduate Record Examination is undertaken for admission to Graduate Programmes abroad. Hence, candidates who plan to appear for GRE are required to have successfully completed their Undergraduate course to be eligible for GRE. Students can register for the exam irrespective of age and qualification. Candidates should note that not all programmes and universities require candidates to have a GRE score for their Graduate Programme. Whether a candidate requires to appear for his GRE is entirely dependent on the university and the course he is pursuing.
There are no specific eligibility criteria for the GRE exam. Anyone can register for this exam, irrespective of age or qualifications. The only thing you need to keep in mind is the fact that you will be required to produce your original passport as proof of identity at the exam center, so make sure that you have a valid passport before you register for the GRE exam.

! Exam Pattern

GRE 2018 Exam Pattern

Writing GRE exam can be stressful given the duration and length of the question paper. Hence, all the coaching institutes teach their students few prep tips to save time such as quick calculations, finger-tip formulas, and time management. The most significant learning here is time management that only comes through the rigorous practice of sample papers and mock tests. Even though one is aware of the GRE Syllabus and knows all the answers, failure to management time can lead to an incomplete exam. This is where the importance of being familiar to the GRE Exam pattern is of utmost importance.

The GRE question paper is divided into three main sections, namely, Analytical Writing, Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. Total time given to complete the exam is three house and thirty minutes (3 hours 30 minutes=210 mins) and for computer-based, it is three hours and forty minutes (3 hours 40 minutes= 220 mins).

The paper-based exam includes two sub-sections of each of the main categories- Analytical Writing, Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning. Analytical Writing part contains two tasks with a duration of one hour (60 mins). Verbal and Quantitative reasoning each contains two sections and 50 questions with a maximum time limit of 60 and 70 minutes, consequently. The variable sections of Unscored and Research are not included in the paper-based exam.
For the computer-based pattern, each of these sections is further divided into two-sub-sections with forty questions in total (Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning). Analytical Writing has only one section that contains two tasks with the time duration of one hour. Apart from these main sections, there are two other variable sections included in the computer-based pattern exam. This section is followed by a ten-minute break after the Quantitative Reasoning part is complete. However, these two variable sections- Unscored and Research section- are not included in the final GRE Scores.

While the GRE Pattern may change from time to time generally, the crux of the format remains the same. Currently, the following is the exam pattern which aspirants can look forward to:
