NMAT by GMAC

NMAT by GMAC is an important National level MBA entrance exam conducted by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). NMAT by GMAC exam is the mandatory entrance test for MBA admission to NMIMS Mumbai and its other campuses as well as 20 other MBA colleges across India.

NMAT Exam Full Form NMAT is the abbreviated form for Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Management Aptitude Test. The exam was acquired by Graduate Management Admission Council in 2015 and therefore, the NMAT has been renamed as NMAT by GMAC.
Prior to 2015, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai used to conduct the NMAT exclusively for admission to its MBA programmes and therefore the full form of NMAT stood as NMIMS Management Aptitude Test. Now the NMAT score is accepted by 22 institutes in India and is conducted by GMAC its name has been changed to NMAT by GMAC.

! Eligibility Criteria

NMAT by GMAC 2018 Eligibility

There’s no definite eligibility criteria for NMAT by GMAC. “It is the responsibility of the test taker to understand the eligibility requirements of all the universities and schools to which he/she is interested in applying before registering for NMATby GMAC,” states the official.

A few guidelines on eligibility for students has been listed at the official website of NMIMS. It is recommended that aspirants should look for detailed eligibility criteria of the particular university and school of their choice before applying for admission to MBA or other management degree programmes.
However, a few general eligibility criteria needs to be followed by every student before filling up the application form:
1.It is compulsory for every student to have a bachelor’s degree (10+2+3/4) in any discipline from any recognised university.
2.Candidates must have atleast 50% score in aggregate in their graduation.
3.Candidates with work experience of two or more years after graduation will be favored for admission to all full-time programmes (according to Admission Information Handout of Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS).
4.Students in their final year of bachelors can also apply for the exam where they shall be offered provisional admission. The final admission will be granted only on clearing graduation exams in first attempt with atleast 50% of marks. The applicant should be able to submit all original documents within the stipulated time period.
NMAT by GMAC’s official website has clearly informed in its eligibility section, “All test takers who complete the Test Registration process pay the test fee within the time specified and follow the published NMATby GMAC terms and conditions may sit for the NMAT exam. It is the responsibility of the test taker to understand the eligibility requirements of all the universities and schools to which he/she is interested in applying before registering for NMATby GMAC. If the test taker registers for the test and then determine that he/she is ineligible for admission to the desired program, no test fee refund will be made. For the eligibility requirements, test takers are advised to check the websites of each university and school where they plan to apply”.

! Exam Pattern

NMAT 2019 Exam Pattern

NMAT 2019 will have 120 questions to be answered in 2 hours, divided into three sections in NMAT 2019.
There are three sections with a separate time-limit for each of them and a limited review time to review the answers in that section. Once submitted after review, answers cannot be altered and the candidate must move on to further sections.

NMAT 2019 features only objective questions (MCQs) and equal weightage to each question.
Each question carries 2 marks for a right answer and there is no partial or negative marking.
The order of attempting the sections is according to the test taker’s preference.

There is no defined cut-off provided officially. The below table provides an estimation based on past history of candidates. It may vary according to current year paper’s difficulty and requirement by the institutions.

! Results

NMAT 2019 Results


NMAT 2019 Results are released by GMAC after nearly 4 or 5 weeks from the date of examination, approximately around third or last week of Jan, 2019.
If multiple attempts were made by the candidate, the best score after scaling is taken as final score. The scores are scaled to a standard level due to varying difficulty in each paper. Hence the final score is irrespective of the difficulty of the paper the candidate attended.
Also, the score is sent digitally to the institutions as preferred by the candidate during the registration.


! Counselling Procedure

Counselling Procedure

After publication of NMAT 2019 results, each institution releases their cut-off. If a candidate clears the cut-off, he/she will be called for further processes. Further rounds of selection include personal interviews, case discussions and any other rounds by individual institutions. These rounds are held only in Mumbai or the respective institution. Documents to be presented during counselling are:

  • Identity proof
  • Proof of residence
  • All certificates regarding previous courses (HSC, UG degree, etc)
  • Mark sheets as deemed necessary
  • Admit card
  • Appointment letter or Offer of admission as sent by the institution
  • Score report card.
